Well, today I've had a little taste of home. To start, I baked an American apple pie (Finnish apple pie is different) because we were having friends over later. Then after baking that we went out to lunch to the "American Diner" that's in Tampere. On the radio there, American music was playing, making it even more creepy to have that familiarity abroad! And to top it off, I went to see Batman with my host brother. Awesome movie! The movie theater here was so huge and it was completely full for this show. The snack bar at these theaters was also really big. It was okay for me because in Finland, movies aren't dubbed into Finnish, but there are subtitles in both Finnish and Swedish. So I watched it in with no problems! On the way out of the theater, I ran into my friend Tristan in the street. He was on his way to see the same movie. For such a big city, it was funny to be at the same spot at the same time! After dinner, we cut into the pie and had vanilla ice cream with it (seems pretty American, huh?) and everybody loved it. So it has been a Finno-American day today and it was good to just get that bit of home. And of course the US was a popular conversation topic because of all this so I answered a lot of questions and told a lot of things about my country and I must say, I felt pretty proud to represent the US in Finland.
On a side note, tomorrow I will be leaving with a camping trailer for the west coast of Finland for a week so again, don't expect any posts for another week! I'm not sure if I'll have internet available to me!

I didn't have enough dough to cover the top so it wasn't 100% American apple pie. Woops! |
Goodbye, my friends.
